From the original Tobin Yallock pastoral lease at Westernport first taken up by Robert Jamieson in 1839, the Scottish partners, John Mickle, William Lyall and John Bakewell divided up their holding into separate properties during 1856, one of these properties being Monomeith.
As Monomeigh was Mickle's share and he had returned to Scotland, his youngest brother, Alexander, was sent with his wife Anges to manage the new property in 1857. From the old Tobin Yallock homestead
